I remember the time when I decided to go deeper into the tech world by learning HTML back in 2015. It started as a hobby, later became passion and now, 11 years later, the passion still persists.

Technology has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. Over the years, through countless freelance gigs, jobs, projects, I’ve learned so many things. But in recent times, I’ve felt the learning has stagnated, perhaps become too concentrated on things like AI. It may also be said that I’ve grown to care about many more things.

We’re building things on top of increasingly high level abstraction and that’s perfectly fine. But I also believe that we should still cherish and have those wonderful moments of fixing a bug or creating something new, even if no one uses it, without relying on AI.

So I’m announcing a project in line with many more projects to come. And the start is a Redis compatible in-memory datastore written in Rust. I’ve had previous experience writing something like this in Go, back in pre-AI era. But I want to relive the joy of programming once again through these projects. I’ll update my blog with every milestone regarding the project.

A project doesn’t have to be built for the sake of changing the world. A humble beginning can change the course of life. I’ve lived that myself.

This database may have a future beyond this experiment but for now, it is a canvas for my ambition to understand the machine beneath the software and to take one step closer to the hardware
